Volunteer adult coaches and new players are always needed
for
DC Youth
Rugby Ass'n
The age groups are Under 11, Under 15, & Under 17. Both Boys and
Girls
are welcome.
The teams train on Saturdays starting 10 am, at Hyde School Football
Field, on T Street NE. The playing season starts on 26 June 2004.
Youth rugby for boys
and girls is alive and well in Washington, DC and Baltimore and in the Virginia and Maryland suburbs. To date, we have played touch rugby in
the 6-16 age group during the summer (northern hemisphere) months, and
beginning in summer 2004, tackle rugby will be available to boys and
girls 11 and up. High school tackle rugby is a spring sport
January-May.
There are numerous clubs in the area (roughly 15 youth clubs), one very
likely not far from you. The web site of the
Potomac Rugby Union
should have contact information for clubs.
If you can't find it there (we're slowly building the information on
that site), you may always contact the PRU secretary via
e-mail.
In addition to the established youth rugby clubs, there
are many communities where a team could be formed if only there were
a willing coach/organizer. If you are interested, the Potomac Rugby
Union can help you get started.
Eric Pittelkau, PRU Secretary
(Footnote: with good support of
players, volunteers and sponsors, youth Rugby will ensure future
generations of players to keep challenging for the New Zealand
Ambassadors Shield). |
