The New
Zealand and Australian Embassies will mark
ANZAC (Australia New Zealand
Army Corp) Day this year with a dawn commemoration at the Korean War
Memorial and a church service at the National Cathedral.
ANZAC Day - April 25 - recognises the sacrifices that New Zealand and
Australian soldiers have made - not only in defending their countries,
but also in upholding New Zealand and Australia's longstanding
commitment to peace and security. This year's commemoration will
acknowledge service in the Korean War (recognising the 50th Anniversary
of the conflict). The programme for the day is as follows:
Dawn Service 5.45 - 6.15am
The New Zealand Embassy, in partnership with the United States
Department of Labour, will host a Dawn Service at the
Korean War Veterans
Memorial in Washington DC.
'Gunfire' Breakfast 6.30am
At the conclusion of the Dawn Service, the Australian Embassy will host
a Gunfire Breakfast at the Embassy of Australia, 1601 Massachusetts Ave,
Washington DC.
Commemorative Church Service 10.30 - 11.30
The Australian Embassy will host a Commemorative Service at the
Washington National
Cathedral in Wisconsin Avenue, Washington DC to mark
ANZAC Day. (Immediately following the service, the
New Zealand Embassy,
37 Observatory Circle, NW, Washington DC, will host a private reception.
